Urban Programme for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area

The Urban Programme for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area is a collection of development projects initiated by the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen. The current programme period is 2008–2010. Previously, the Urban Programme has been implemented in 2002–2004 and 2005–2007.

The aim of the Urban Programme is to improve the international competitiveness of the Helsinki region and develop it into a world-class centre for business and innovation. The measures included in the programme strengthen the opportunities for enterprises as well as for living, learning, participating and working in the area. The programme does its part to implement the current strategies of the metropolitan area cities and the Uusimaa Regional Council.

The Urban Programme is coordinated by the City of Helsinki Urban Facts Centre. The coordination ensures that the projects involved in the city programme are launched and progress according to the programme and project plans, and that the regional cooperation comes to fruition.
