World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 partners with INDEX:

World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and INDEX: of Denmark have launched a partnership.

INDEX: is a non-profit organization whose mission is Design to Improve Life. The INDEX: Partner City Network works to fulfill this mission.

In addition to Helsinki, the new alliance includes the cities of Copenhagen and Singapore.  “We very much admire the design development in these cities,” says Kigge Hvid, CEO of INDEX:, about the three new partner cities.

The new partnership with INDEX: will bring an extensive programme of events and projects to Helsinki and the other cities participating in the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 project.

The programme includes a major design exhibition in Helsinki in May-June 2012, consisting of INDEX: Award finalist designs. INDEX: presents the world’s biggest design awards, the INDEX: Awards.

High schools will implement a Design to Improve Life educational programme, and students will be invited to design solutions for better life. Design Lab Helsinki will focus on challenges put forth by World Design Capital Helsinki 2012.

Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti are World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. The theme of the World Design Capital year is Open Helsinki – Embedding Design in Life.
