The Espoo Day 27.8.2010

The Espoo Day is a day for Espoo residents! The residents of Espoo can enjoy the city’s diverse programme during the Espoo Day. The aim of the day is to make the range of events and culture in the city available to everyone.

Some picks from this year’s programme
At the experiential city consultant’s reception, the performing artist invites participants to look at Espoo in a new way. The reception can be found at WeeGee Exhibition Centre between 1–3 pm and 4–6 pm. The Espoo Day’s dance, organised for the second time, will be set in motion in the Sello Hall lobby at 5 pm, accompanied by the brass septet Serpentti. The Evening of the Arts will be held at WeeGee Exhibition Centre from 4 pm onwards. During the evening, visitors may listen to music, participate in workshops and become familiar with the wide range of exhibitions free of charge. Visitors may observe the warming up of the smoke sauna at Vanha Kuninkaantie from 10 am onwards as well as go to the sauna once it is warm. Separate sauna turns are arranged for men and women.

The programme of the Espoo Day includes events, workshops and free entrances to museums. The core of the programme consists of events produced by the city’s own establishments, such as the Espoo City Museum, City of Espoo libraries, the Espoo Cultural Centre, Espoo Ciné, The Gallen-Kallela Museum, the Länsi-Uusimaa Department for Rescue Services, the WeeGee Exhibition Centre, Art House Pikku-Aurora and the Sello Hall. In addition, residents’ associations, organisations and shopping centres, among others, take part in organising events.

The full programme (in Finnish) can be read on the Espoo Day website at www.espoo.fi/espoopaiva. A summary of the programme is also available in libraries and citizen’s offices and also comes attached with the Länsiväylä newspaper on week 33.
