Plenty of activities and events this autumn at city libraries

City libraries in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen have adopted autumn opening hours. In addition to basic lending and circulation services, the libraries will offer a wide variety of other activities and events this autumn. These include reading groups, visits by authors as well as various exhibitions. More details on the exhibitions and events can be found on the website of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen city libraries.

HelMet library, which comprises the city libraries of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen, will have its own exhibition stand at the Helsinki Book Fair organised at Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre from 27 to 30 October 2011. The HelMet exhibition stand will provide interesting tips to both children and adults on what to read, listen and watch.

At the libraries’ special sections for children and the young, customers may borrow not only books, but also music, comics, audiobooks and games. There are storybook readings and music sessions for young children and book tips for school children. Students in Vantaa can also read books to fulfil the requirements for a literature diploma. The KULPS library path in Espoo takes school children to local cultural and sporting destinations. Refer to the children’s section on the website of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen city libraries for more information.

Some libraries also provide free-of-charge instruction in computer use for customers, including both basic courses and courses with special themes. Participation is generally subject to advance booking.
