More security guards deployed to improve safety of drivers and passengers

HSL, bus operators, HKL, VR and the police have agreed to cooperate to improve security and visibility of security personnel in key bus terminals. More security guards will be deployed already in the coming weekend at Elielinaukio and Rautatientori and around Kamppi metro station.

HSL and its partners in cooperation are together planning further measures to improve the security of public transport personnel and passengers. HSL coordinates these measures, which include also updating the public transport security strategy together with other actors in the field.

In the procurement of bus services HSL has taken security issues into account e.g. by requiring that new buses are equipped with a driver safety cabin.

HSL takes the violence against drivers and other personnel and passengers seriously. Increasing security personnel in public transport terminals may reduce public disorder but it will not solve the problem fully. Insecurity on the streets and in other public places is a wider social phenomenon and the whole society must take responsibility for tackling it.
