Jokeri ridership continues to grow
Number of passengers riding on the Jokeri bus service has been steadily increasing ever since the service began operating in August 2006. In November 2009, Jokeri reached the mark of 30,000 daily passengers. This represents a 7 % increase on last winter, i.e. approximately 1,500 new daily passengers.
The most heavily loaded section on the route is between Itäkeskus and Pitäjänmäki. Especially high numbers of passengers have been seen on weekday morning departures from Itäkeskus with nearly 100 passengers per departure from time to time.
Departures on Jokeri route have been increased every year, which has in turn increased demand. From next autumn, Jokeri will operate from Itäkeskus at 3-minute intervals between 7am and 7.42am. Also Sunday evening service will be increased.
HSL will continue to develop the Jokeri service also in future. This year articulated and double articulated buses have been trialed on the route. More spacious buses are tested in order to find answers to the capacity problems. The service currently operates at 5-minute intervals during peak hours and introduction of a more frequent service is not a viable alternative on this kind of long route.
