Growth remains slow in the Helsinki region
Growth in the economic output of the Helsinki region remained slow in the second quarter of 2011, up by an estimated 2 percent from the same period in 2010. The region’s economic growth is slowed down by difficulties in the information-technology sector in particular.
Growth in output on the national level was faster at nearly 4 percent in the second quarter. Compared to 2006, however, growth in the Helsinki region has been 8 percent and in all of Finland 5 percent.
The Helsinki region’ economic trends are strongly influenced by electronic, machine and equipment industries as well as by building and construction, although services represent a significantly large share of the region’s economy.
