City departments and services in the Helsinki region now on one service map

The web-based City of Helsinki Service Map has been online for two years. The map has now been expanded to also cover the departments and services of Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen.

The cities in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area produce information on their public service and departments and it is entered into a database maintained by the City of Helsinki. From that database, the information is transferred to the Service Map. All information is commensurable and categorised. Users of the service can now easily search information on services across departmental and municipal boundaries.

Users can search for services by using a basic search, a categorised service tree or an address search. The address search functionality also displays services in the vicinity of the address provided.

The map also provides the contact information for the department or service sought along with a description of the services provided, the location, how to get there as well as links to the website of the department or service in question.

As the Service Map uses an open interface based on REST architecture, anyone can fetch information from the Service Map and use it to create third party applications. The interface will be published on the Helsinki Region Infoshare project website (http://www.hri.fi).

The service can be accessed at the following addresses: www.hel.fi/palvelukartta, www.espoo.fi/palvelukartta, www.vantaa.fi/palvelukartta and www.kauniainen.fi/palvelukartta.
